You are asked to begin the scheduling process with Barb Pelletier, PCL. You can reach the Faith Formation Center at: 207-834-3984. Alternatively, you can begin the conversation via e-mail on the right.
After that, it will be determined if you are in need of a Baptism Preparatory Class. Baptism Preparatory Classes are held every other month and are required for first time parents and/or if your youngest child is over 5 years of age. If you are from another Parish, you will be directed to receive this service from your Parish. If you are a member of St.John Vianney Parish, you will be invited to attend a session for baptism preparation. These sessions are hosted by volunteers in the Parish who wish to share with others the commitment a parent makes when they choose to have their child baptized. Baptism is not a one-time event that stops after the ceremony. Our volunteers are prepared to share what a difference it makes in their lives and in the lives of their children to be an active part of the Catholic Church.
Ordinarily, the parents of the child to be baptized are members of the St.John Vianney Parish family. If you are not a parishioner and live in the area, you are invited to register to become active in our parish family. You may do so by registering at the bottom of this page.
If you live elsewhere and wish to have your child baptized in St. John Vianney Parish, we will need a letter of permission from your home parish.
You will need to select at least one qualified godparent or sponsor. There are normally two godparents, one man and one woman. Godparents must be Catholic, at least 16 years of age, confirmed, have already received the Sacrament of the Most Holy Eucharist and if currently married, married according to the laws of the Church. Sponsors must also lead a life in harmony with the faith and the role to be undertaken.
Godparents need to obtain a Sponsor's Certificate signed by the pastor from the church they currently attend.
